Leukemia – Acute Lymphocytic – ALL
Leukemia is the medical term for cancer of the blood, of which there are many subtypes. Lymphocytes are a kind of white blood cell, important because of their involvement in the immune system. Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia (ALL) forms in immature lymphocytes and typically requires urgent treatment since other blood cell types may be affected in addition to lymphocytes. Because of abnormal cell growth in the bone marrow, a reduced amount of all blood cell types may be produced, resulting in a host of complications such as anemia, infections, and bleeding.
