Skin Cancer (Non-Melanoma)

Despite being the most frequently seen type of cancer, skin cancers are the cause of under 1% of cancer deaths each year. This is partially due to the fact that skin cancer is easily seen which often leads to early diagnosis. The skin is composed of different layers, each of which is formed by different cell types. Melanocytes are the cells responsible for skin pigmentation and are found in the deeper layers of skin. Cancer involving melanocytes is called melanoma and is the most serious type of skin cancer.
