Thymoma and Thymic Carcinoma
These cancer types originate in the thymus which is a small organ behind the ribcage important for the immune system, especially during childhood. Thymoma and thymic carcinoma typically grow from either epithelial cells or lymphocytes, which, when affected, may later turn into lymphoma. Thymic carcinoma is normally the more difficult variety to treat and may spread more readily. This type of cancer is sometimes thought to be linked with an autoimmune disorder known as myasthenia gravis.
